Police officers have a lot on their hands. Even if they’re swamped, some of them still have time to do other beautiful things such as rescue dogs. Officer Eric Mccombs is one of those officers.
One midnight while he was on patrol, he spotted a chained pit bull on a porch. The temperature outside that time was terrible. It negative twenty degrees Fahrenheit.
As soon as the officer freed the pit bull from the chains, its tail was wagging. He accompanied the dog to his vehicle and gave him some snacks. The dog’s lips had frostbites. Eric couldn’t imagine why someone would do something like this to an innocent dog.
The officer couldn’t figure out what to do with the dog at first. But it dawned onto him that he should take it to the shelter. Eric was wondering who’s going to take care of the dog. He couldn’t stop thinking about it, so he finally made a decision. Eric decided he wants to adopt the dog himself.
Eric already had a dog. However, he didn’t hesitate to bring a new one to his home. The female pit bull was later named Sweetpea. The moment he drove back to the shelter to get Sweetpea was a special moment.
Having another dog means he had to double the amount of dog food he was purchasing and also pay more for the vet. That didn’t seem to be a problem at all for this police officer.
During the early days of being adopter, Sweetpea didn’t exhibit the behavior of an average dog. She wouldn’t jump on the couch, and she refused to get out of her Kennel.
After a while, Sweetpea started to come out of her shell. She became more open, energetic, and full of joy. Seeing the pit bull transform made Eric feel more appreciative of what he had.
Now Sweetpea is consistently wagging her tail. She no longer has to suffer in the cold weather, just like she did in the past. Eric is a good police officer blessed with a wonderful dog.
